The seventh seal.
This was surprisingly cheerful. I didn't think old Mr. Death was all that scary. He knew very well what Max von Sydow was up to, but let him go anyway. Surely he could have nabbed the actors if had wanted to. And, as R. pointed out, just how downbeat can you be when you have a big guy in a black shroud and whiteface stalking the other actors around the set.
Much more upbeat than "Wild strawberries" or "Virgin spring". Considering that it was made at the height of the Cold War, not long after WWII, i'd say it's almost too cheerful.
