through an actual modem... RJ-11 phone jack? Yeah, don't do that. What SHOULD be done is crossover your serial ports with a serial crossover cable and use software to xfer that way. It'll top out at about 115000bps though. Ideally you would use an ethernet crossover and just share the drive over the network and copy to it... then you are limited to 10Mb/s or 100Mb/s depending on the slowest ethernet card.
