They have to answer questions under oath like (paraphrasing) "Have you ever considered how you would rule on a case involving abortion?" $5 says that particular question forced several justices to perjure themselves. Why would they ask such questions? Well, that's simple. Justices are supposed to be (politically) unbiased. And yet their decisions fall down party lines consistently.
