That's sort of my point. In blotter reports, the reporters have the names. It's public record. They chose not to print them. That's why we have all the names of the geniuses in the mug shot section at The Smoking Gun.
Seems to me that a paper could chose not to print this kind of stuff and suffer no official repercussions. Unofficially, it could cause all sorts of headaches if the police are ordered not to cooperate with local journalists.
Maybe Shakran will wander through and enlighten us. I hope so.
