there's also the finalizing of the DVD that needs to be completed before using it in a computer. that's problematic IMO since you can't just take out the media and play it in your computer immediately.
that is unless that changed in the past 2 years.
While DV does require you to convert it as a transfer, you can take the tape, play it on the TV immediately.
