If you know what video card you have, try updating it's drivers, by going on the manufacturer's site and looking for your model's latest driver. I don't think it's your monitor, but just in case do the same for your monitor.
I'm assuming you're running windows. You can find out what kind of video card you have by right-clicking anywhere on your desktop and clicking on "personalize" (if it's vista, I don't remember on XP) and then going to "display settings", click "advanced", and seeing what's under the "Video Adapter" tab.
For XP it's similar. by going in the menus that have to do with your display and poking around you'll land on the video card somehow. Or you can go in the control panel, open device manager and see what your graphics card is.
