Yes, methanol can cause blindness, among other ill effects. Methanol itself is not particularly more toxic than ethanol, but it's metabolized to formaldehyde and formic acid, which are much more toxic than the acetaldehyde and acetic acid from ethanol. Distilling in a radiator can cause similar symptoms as a result of ethylene glycol poisoning.
