Wow! Great topic!
I
love cooking, especially to feed people I love. My girlfriend doesn't mind cooking-- I'm not sure if I'd call it love. And the man of the house isn't a terrible cook, he just doesn't do it often. Cooking is a means of self-expression and a tasty tasty way for me to say "I love you" as well as a kind of "quiet time" for me to get my feet back under me when I get home from a crappy day at work. Of course, there are some times I feel obligated to cook... but those are usually the times when I've planned a week's meals in advance! If we want pizza, though, we get pizza.
We're trying to save money lately, so I guess I need to make sure I just have pizza fixin's in the fridge and yeast to make pizza crust.
I've discovered that I really am a lot like Mom and my father's mother (Nana) when it comes to being in the kitchen; it's how they said "I care about you and your welfare." I don't mind using frozen meals to speed dinner along, though. There's no way in hell I'm going to make homemade ravioli on a Wednesday night, and some of those "skillet meals" are awesome on a busy day. It doesn't mean I love anyone any less. There's still dinner on the table.
