Here's my take.

The Chantix is really amazing. I did it for three months but managed to miss a dose here and there. I went from about 2-1/2 packs to less than one pack a day within a few days of beginning. It makes the taste less than pleasurable, so I'd find myself putting out cigarettes after I'd had just a puff or two.

But being the stubborn fool I'm entitled to be, I wouldn't give up those last few. My script (3 months) ran out about 3 weeks ago. Naturally, after a day or two, my habit is back up to almost two packs right about now.

I finally decided to ask my MD if he would be willing to call in another month or two. I just picked them up last night and (forgot to bring with me so) I plan to begin tonight.

I've probably mentioned this before, but I will preach this one 'til the end. I have this book and will reread it Thursday or Friday while on vacation.

When I initially heard about this book on the high recommendation of a well-respected friend, I knew it had to be good. Anyway, the book tells you to keep smoking, but I found myself excited to actually put that final cigarette out before I finished the book. (I did restart within a week of quitting via the book alone, but that's a whole 'nother story.)

Anyway, my intention is to combine the Chantix with the book once I've got a few days of it in me. This will have me well-armed as I also have the additional motivation. This spring break includes the somewhat exciting task of finding me and the girls a HOUSE! So that (ahem) cigarette money, the book and the Chantix will just have to do it.

My suggestion would be: stick with the Chantix. Amazon and most libraries and bookstores carry the book. Do 'em both. I think they'll reinforce well.

And it's not luck. It's making the choice to do what you want. I can do this. We can do this.
