Go for it Milnoc!
I drive the Gardiner every day and I find that stretch very interesting. Farther west along the embankment below the tracks, there's an old wire and log fence that I bet dates back over 100 years. There's also a large concrete pad that I suspect once held a light standard.
Back in the mid 90's I used to work at King and Atlantic and took the GO train in from Oakville. There was no northbound crossover from the CNE platform to the Liberty village side so I had to take the train all the way downtown and then doubleback in the King Streetcar, adding a 1/2 hour to my commute. Even though I don't work there any more I find it gratifying that they've rectified the situation and allowed GO passengers to disembark into that part of the city.
In anticipation of Milnoc's post, here's a photo of one of GO Transit's spiffy new engines:
