Regardless of however this thread came to be at the top of the Sports pile, I am glad it did! I play ultimate, have played the last two summers casually (I was still getting in shape), and am planning on playing more than casually this summer (now that I'm in shape). I play with friends on a team in a summer league organized by parks and rec.
In a good game of ultimate, you are constantly on the move, always running. It can be tiring if you don't have the endurance for it. One of the things I've noticed in our division (we're in the "spirited" division, meaning we're not novices and we're not competitive) is that despite being in the non-competitive division, each team has at least one player who takes the sport super-seriously. Now, this can cause problems as ultimate is refereed by the players, and everyone calls fouls. We had one instance where this one jackass was calling every foul he thought he saw--in the final game of an all-day tournament. Needless to say, people weren't too happy--especially the players who had been playing all day and whose game kept getting longer.
So, my general advice to any player of ultimate--carry a copy of the latest edition of the rulebook with you. And a first aid kit.
I'm really looking forward to my team this summer! A lot of people from last year's team are returning, and we have some cool new players signed up. We haven't picked a name out yet, so any suggestions people have would be welcome.
