I'm not going to kid myself or spend hours trying to pretend like I have any talent. I cannot draw. I wish I could, but I simply can't. There have been many times where I wished that I could draw, but the fact of the matter is, I make
xkcd look like it was drawn by
Luis Royo.
One of the things I've always wished that I could do was draw a web comic. I know that you don't need to be an artist to do this, but certain kinds of humor requires varying degrees of drawing skill to portray it. xkcd works, for example, because the jokes are mainly delivered through the writing. It you take Perry Bible Fellowship, on the other hand, it is a comic that delivers its punchlines with the concepts it presents through pictures. Thus, it relies on artistic ability to make it funny.
I've tried to get the artistically inclined people in my life to help me out before. You know; I write, they draw. Well, its either the sob story of not having the confidence to do it or they just don't connect with someone ELSE's idea. Essentially, its a proposal for collaboration. So, the idea for this thread came to me as I thought up yet another 3-panel comic that will never get created because there is nobody to illustrate it.
THE POINT OF THIS:
Similar to the weekly project themes, we should give artist a shot at drawing comic strips. The writing will be done by suggestion, and artists can give their shot at adapting the comic in their own form.
Here's the comic I had thought up just now:
Panel 1: Character is reeling back to sneeze BIG.
Panel 2: Character is mid-sneeze, with something flying out of his nose.
Panel 3: A brain is sliding along the floor.
There isn't really a punchline... its not even very hilarious... but its just something that I felt needed to be illustrated. And that's what's funny.. sorta..
