US Bank is known as a fee-income based bank, they do try to charge you for everything. I work for a midwest bank, and they pretty much all work the same. If you make a deposit, its not available to pay the items clearing the account today because they have uncollected funds. So they take your pending item and uncollected funds out, then take out what is clearing to maximize overdrafts aka fee income. Best advice is know how the system works and keep a register.
