Answer: Because I'm putting my external 250GB HD inside the case and it just so happens to be an IDE drive. That mobo only supports two IDE devices. I was trying to cut costs as much as I could (I'm getting $115 in rebates on all that stuff) so I went with an IDE burner. I don't burn much anyway.
As for RAM, I'll upgrade sometime along the way. Right now I'm recuperating after spending a bit over a grand on the new comp.
