Wear a suit only if you're comfortable wearing one, otherwise you're probably going to be tugging at the collar or adjusting the jacket or other things like that. If you're not comfortable in a suit, it will show.

If it turns out you're the only guy in the restaurant who showed up in a suit, it just looks like you came right to dinner from your high-power job making assloads of cash. On the other hand, if you go with something like khakis and a polo shirt, and everyone else shows up in suits, you're going to look like you came right to dinner from your minimum-wage job working in the mailroom for any of the other guys in the restaurant.
