(refers to Tom Bradley, the mayor of LA who was way ahead in polls when he ran for governor of Cali in 1982 against a political novice..but ended up losing the election - the issue: people say race is not an issue when polled or in public discussions/debates, but may act differently in the privacy of the voting booth)
