What I could support and what I think would be reasonable would be an expanded statement by the AMA (and or appropriate affiliates) of its current policies and practices for physicians:

Perhaps adding language....
the patient should be encouraged to inform and involve the spouse/partner if such notification poses no threat to the patient, with the patient retaining the final right to determine the most appropriate treatment.
