I recommend against the douching/enemas. That can actually make things bad.
As far as positions go, I find the most "comfortable" is me on my back and him sideways behind me (of course, where else would he be?). But yes, first of all start with fingers (nails very short and filed, pls) and assorted small toys. Work your way up (no pun intended).
