Get your passport now. That will save some time.
Also start doing as much research as you can, now. Get a leg up on what needs to be done.
Don't let a little thing like timing stand in your way. It will mean a little more work but it will be worth it... The last thing you want to be doing in a year or two is looking back with regret on a missed opportunity.
The way I see it, you have nothing to lose if you go to Nanjing and much to gain.
