When we were alone, we were just a couple. But even liberal and tolerant Americans (both black and white) never let us forget about color when we stepped out the door.
Sadly, a lot of work still needs to be done, and several generations will be required for full evolution to occur.

I live in Phoenix, and there are more 'races' than just black and white...my wife is Navajo. I'm not saying that people in black/white couples that are living in, say, Cincinnati, (or even Phoenix, to a much lesser extent) won't feel quite a bit of social pressure. It was just a startling revalation that, wow, interracial couple describes me!
