I own alot of ps2 and ps1 games so I will only get the 80gig model. They had to cut backwards compatibility from the 40gig model to cut costs, there is actually some more stuff other than that that they cut out as well.
I was never one of the people to freak over the price tag, if you consider you can buy the ps3 and a cheap HD dvd player for less than a normal blu ray player then that seems like a good deal to me. Plus it plays games and is a media center.
