Your system currently has 512 mb of RAM in two modules (what us techy guys generally refer to as 'sticks'). Each stick is 256 mb. Lasereth's recommendation (which I heartily endorse) is to buy two 512mb sticks; then all you'll have to do is pull the old ones out and replace them with the new ones to double your RAM capacity.
Capacity isn't the sole specification used in determining what RAM to buy, but for your purposes it's the biggest one.
