spurious landscape recordings

hail comrades.

so i dont know whether folk read my journal or not: if you have, you know that i have had a residency at experimental sound studio in chicago this fall and have been working with an electro-acoustic prepared piano set-up that my clairaudient comrade brett and i have developed.

we have revised/updated our website and here are the first two recordings that we have mixed down:

http://www.clairaudient.org/recordings.html

here are a few photos from the sessions:

http://www.clairaudient.org/current.html

the top one is from week 4, the bottom 2 from week 5.

all the sound you hear is produced by the piano.
there is no drumkit, there are no bells, there is no toy piano, no gamelan.
it's all the rig.
there's more to the project than this, but i figure that can wait.
these are just posted and i'm curious about what you make of them.

we're doing performances using this rig tomorrow and saturday in chicago: information is available on the site.

spurious landscape 5 is my favorite, but 4 is cool too, i think.

btw i havent had a chance to check out the sound quality in mp3 format--i've only heard the masters (in wav form): the sound quality in the masters is just fantastic. hope the compression doesn't fuck things up.
let me know if it does please.

note:

these are long, continuous recordings.
we considered putting track divisions in, but since i-tunes will insert gaps at each marker, we decided (so far) not to do it.
if things work as we'd like, they are kinda hallucinogenic pieces.
feel free to adjust your mental state before diving in.

there's a bunch of information about the process involved in my journal.
i'd be happy to explain how we made the sounds that i have any idea about--there are some things i cant explain. like what the radio does, where the oboe or flute sections come from in number 4, for example.
the cosmos made them.
so you'll have to ask the cosmos what it was thinking.

but in number 5, the section that sounds a bit like a string section was made by pulling glass rods through the wires. and the showers of high harmonics and bent pitches were made with the glass vase you see in the top photo, or with the strange wineglass you see in the bottom photo (or with another glass)...that sort of thing i can tell you about.

enough blabbing.
