Easily granted. I never said he wasn't met with a measure of disappointingly negative reactions. You're right that the atmosphere was a bit volatile at the onset, though I don't think it was without some merit. For me personally, as I said, I read his posting style as intentional. There's a big difference between "not fitting
the mold" and "intentionally posting to mess with people". I think that we do a halfway decent job with people who don't "fit".
There's little to be done with someone who intentionally breaks the mold and then gives you the finger when you call him on it.

I'm sure you guys have made him feel oh so very welcome. Really though thats what seems to happen, I remember back a long time ago someone would come here with a topic, and it went against the grain of what "TFP Morals" have come to evolve into. The OP in those old posts would be explained to what the ideals of each of the subsequent posters would be in that particular situation. (Take a look at the hall of fame threads, at worst in most of those old ones you'd get a comment like "Well I think this is a troll but here's what I think on the situation anyway)

Ah yes, the "old days"... the grass was always greener in our memories.
Really though, you have a valid point. I agree that seemingly negative threads weren't met with such quick and aggressive disdain. Of course, there also used to be a lot fewer of us posting. With increased capacity comes the danger of faster reactions to everything. Now, you can hardly post in a thread without someone answering it quite expediently, at any time of the day... such was hardly the case in the past. I know very well, because I've always been a night person... it used to be that I'd post in threads and then leave them alone until the next day when I awakened (mid-day), because no one was around and posting at 3, 4, 5am my time. I had to wait until the world got up. Right now, it's almost 3am here and I'm actively engaged in like 4 threads with several other people. And it's Monday morning!

Fast forward back to present day, and this is what you get. We evolved into a board for the select. It's unfortunate, compassion, understanding others PoV, the ability to see other idealogies and ways of thinking, were once what the board was founded upon.

The sense of ownership among some people who've been around for a while is always unmistakable, but sometimes infamous. Some people's sense of ownership empowers them to take charge and greet the Upright, "show them the ropes", "take them under their wings", and other helpful cliches like that. Sometimes, though, it gives them a sense of entitlement to "rule the school" and play bully to the behavior of the Upright, bucking against anything that doesn't hold up their beloved status quo. It's something we've faced many times as a board, and it will keep happening until all the long-time members get in the same camp and realize when we say this board is "ours", it doesn't just apply to those who've been around a while. The board is
everyones, upright and tilted alike. New blood brings new things, new ideas, new ways. That bothers some people, which is ironic given our credos of growth, learning, exploration, understanding... and respect.
