Actually more, and if even the conservative estimates are to be believed far more Japanese lives than were lost in both bombings combined.
The Japanese civilians were committing suicide on Okinawa in order to avoid capture. Mothers threw their children off cliffs and then themselves lest they be captured by the barbaric Americans (Japanese propaganda was strong).
