The US has been attempting a number of things that Russia would consider an attack on their interests. New oil and gas pipelines that would counter Russia's current monopoly would directly impact the leverage they have over countries dependent upon Russian supplies. Bush's intent to install missles in post-Soviet countries in response to the Iranian ::cough:: "threat" is also at odds.
Iran's vast gas and oil reserves are the only reason that Bush & Cheney are banging the war drums again. Whatever CIA involvement there may be would be directed toward obtaining those fields. Kasparov is unlikely to be anything other than a sideshow to more immediate prospects.
