In short, it's not a "lube" problem, it's a "condition" problem.
Replens is more of a moisturizer designed to get the conditions back to where they were before menopause, including pH. Just adding lube doesn't cause her less pain because the "skin" is still not terribly pliable although well lubricated. (Think of a dried up rubber band that is cracking. Just adding lube isn't going to "fix" it....) Replens is specifically for that problem.
