Heh, well, a little clarification and more follow-up...
I wouldn't expect everyone to know this, so please don't feel like I'm being condescending if you already do, but just in case....
Trent Reznor's career spans more than two decades, a single, double, triple, and quadruple platinum album and two gold albums, 2 Grammy awards, 8 nominations...the list of accomplishments goes on. There are two problems facing any record exec who wants to bury him: the first is that he's reached a point where he can't exactly be buried - all the successful marketing for his most recent album was done without the participation of his label, and the second problem is that if anyone tried to bury him, it'd hurt the argument they love so much, that they're doing it "for the artists."
Anyway, some more followup... It will also be difficult to bury him in the "sabotage his career" sense, because he's now officially free of any label affiliation as of a couple days ago, since he finished his last contractually obligated album for Universal Music Group.
