"life is meals" by jay salter is 365 food essays, short, quick and easy and really interesting, non fiction.
i really loved "time: its origin, and history by alexander waugh. not dry at all, damn interesting, non fiction.
all the conan books by robert e howard are pretty awesome, and i consider conan more classic than harry pothead, and you can buy them in a collection.
other than that, you can't go wrong with all the books everyone's mentioned so far.
