duke ellington: the mooch
from live at fargo, 1940.
this is one of those records that you head about from jazz heads--the serious ones. often you hear them go on about the Sacred Records and you go yeah yeah yeah whatever. BUT:
if you like the jazz music at all--AT ALL--go ye forth and find this recording.
just do it. it's so fabulous that words really fail--a lovely peculiar document of a performance in a non-descript location by one of the best, tightest touring bands i have ever heard in any format. ever.
it's out by way of jazz heritage records.
