I had my wisdom teeth out a couple years ago and it was the first time I have ever been put under. In fact, it was the first surgery of any sort of I've ever had. They used a needle for me. I think. At least, I don't remember any mask.
You really don't need to worry. Anesthesiologists go through a ton of training and know what they're doing. You won't remember much, but with any luck the people who are around to help you will tell you all the funny stories about what you said and how you acted.
