Direct TV is where it is at in my opinion, but any satellite company is better than cable. I never get any connection problems (unless the weather is extremely bad) and it's 100% digital unlike cable. Dish also has better HD stuff, if you have the television for it.
The thing I would recommend though, is to keep the cable internet because it's much better than DSL. We were in the same situation, got cable internet and tv along with it. the tv was horrible so we canceled the tv portion of our service and got satellite.
