Everyone--and I mean everyone--should invest in a Microplane if they like parmesan cheese. We buy big hunks of parmigiano reggiano from Costco, along with asiago and pecorino romano, and grate it fresh when we need it.
And hang on to the rinds! They add great flavor to soups. I keep mine in a plastic bag in the freezer.
