I figured it out. squirt towers are the best. start by making a pellet tower maze. stick 2 squirt at the entrances. once you have enough $, upgrade the squirts and make the maze longer.
remember to put a squirt in the center to catch the flyers and put some squirts at the exit also. I just made over 4000 that way on medium. I just lost too much lives because it was the 1st time playing med and i didn't know they came in from the top as well.
