I've done a partial one like that. Not as bad as yours though.
I got kicked there once when I was a kid though (martial arts class) - it felt swollen for weeks. I was too embarrassed (or too young) to see a doc. Probably I should have however.
I didn't apply ice, this seems to extreme - but cool showers er, sorta helped. I'd just run the cold water over it, if you know what I mean. Heck, it was sorta an experiment. At least I felt then that I was doing something.
