Have you tried WinAmp lately? They've been doing a good job keeping up with the times. Their library features are pretty comprehensive if I remember. I was a pleasantly surprised to see that it can read from an iPod, which was good considering I had some music "stranded" on it. Meh.
Not sure of WinAmp's performance, though.
