Give Doom 3 another chance but use the "duct tape" mod - I'll send it to you if you want. It puts a weapon-mounted light on your long weapons. The game is still pretty scary with the light. But the game is almost unplayably dark without it.

I didn't get far in Quake 4 - I thought the weapons were kinda puny. Maybe I'll give it another chance.

I remember the moment that hooked me officially on the game. I was a rebel on Hoth. From a distance I noticed a dark trooper hiding on the roof of our rebel base (probably hiding out to steal a snow speeder). I PMed over the TeamChat: "There's a dark trooper on the base!" To which someone replied "On it."
Then I saw a snow speeder peel off from the ATAT it was attacking and strafed the dark trooper to pieces. Then I read "Got him." That's the cool thing about multiplayer.
SWBF is even fun if you're getting your ass kicked because you wouldn't be the only one getting slaughtered but you keep respawning to try to bravely take that bridge or hill - even against the odds. Sometimes you succeed.
Of all the games mentioned I still play SWBF - and I've had the game since it was first released in December 2004!
