Echoing off of Tecoyah's answer, in my wedding, both of my parents walked me to the altar, then both of my wife's parents did the same for her.
We also did a variation on the unity candle; we did not blow out the other candles. The connection to the past and to family is just as important as our connection to each other, so all 7 candles remained lit (both my parents, both her parents, candles for us individually, and one joint candle. There were two candelabra each with 3 candles, and one pillar candle).
