Anyone here on Freenet?
This is aimed at people who use freenet, but I'll explain it for anyone who isn't...
As you may or may not know, freenet is a 'censorship-resistant environment', designed to protect freedom of speech right down to the very last nails. Step toward this are two-fold: by making those who use freenet (a) - hard to track down and (b) - hard to prosecute conclusively. The motivation of this is to allow freedoms to those who may have been denied it - a common example is for communication between political dissidents in China.
Anyway, that's what freenet is, I'd like to know if anyone's using it. It all sounds like an exciting (or at least interesting) place to be, however the most recent implementation of freenet is called a 'scalable darknet' - a friend-to-friend network designed for millions of people. The whole thing is one network, but to connect, one obviously needs some friends.
Lacking almost totally in friends as I do, freenet-project.org recommends asking someone I trust, someone I've at least spoken to, and asking strangers in freenet's chatroom, in that order. If there's anyone on TFP that would be able to give me a leg-up into the freenet, I'd much sooner trust anyone from TFP before some randoms in a chatroom.
As freenet users will know, a minimum of 3 friends are recommended to get set up. Depending on how many users we can find, hopefully we can get more than just myself connected.
