I respond to these quite often, but I've never taken it past the fourth response. If they make the mistake of invoking the name of God in their email, I tell them that God Almighty is watching their efforts to scam people, and they will have to answer for it on judgment day, etc.
I had ONE guy, in all the ones I strung along and then told them I knew it was a scam, write back and admit it. (I normally sign off with "Get a real job and stop trying to steal.") He said he was poor, needed food, no jobs in his area, etc. but to his credit, he said "And I'm not asking you send me any money."
So I didn't.
