If I remember correctly, SBC installs their own customized version of IE, which doesn't really add anything to the equation, right? Perhaps you can get the "true" IE back in there. I suspect that SBC f'd something up along the way with your IE configurations. I don't know how to reset all of IE's configurations, whereas with Firefox you can just create a new profile.
PS: Lady Sage: I've used Firefox since it was called Phoenix (version 0.4), and I used to use all the other programs (except HijackThis, never needed it) that Pan mentioned when I used a PC at work (I was the sysadmin, so I put them on all computers). Plus CCleaner. These are all great and solid programs, and your computer will be a happier and safer place to play with them running.
