Realisticly .45 just because it has enough stopping powero to stop pretty much anyone but is small enough to keep under control even if you were half asleep.
But i would rather have a nice big blunderbuss. A 3/4 inch barrel would do just fine. I dunno if that would be rated in a caliber though. kinda like a 10 or 12 gauge shotgun
