We deem a leader as great because they bring forth a great idea that we can and should improve the condition of humankind. They live their lives open to the public which makes them accessible to those who feel they will lose something with that change.
Liars and those that wish to undermine the human condition understand that they cannot go among the masses unprotected, if at all.
Ace, I think the answer to your question is whether you believe people to be fundamentally good or fundamentally evil, and you shape the way you live around that belief.
