All About Eve is an excellent movie. I haven't watched it in ages, but I might just have to pick it up again.
3 movies this weekend.
Children of Men - I loved Pan's Labyrinth, so I picked this one up because it's directed by Alfonso Cuaron--a name often mentioned in tandem with Guillermo Del Toro these days. I was not disappointed. I'm usually not a big fan of Clive Owen, but this go round, he seems pretty damn solid, especially with the addition of Moore and Caine. The long shot sequences were brilliantly done and although, at times, he beats you senseless with the symbolism, such instances are few and far between. Just a great, great movie. 10/10
Curse of the Golden Flower - Boy, oh boy, where to start? This was a very pretty movie and the action sequences were top notch, as I expected. Unfortunately, even all that couldn't save this one. It just takes forever to start. How many hours can I be expected to sit and watch Chow Yun Fat stroke his goatee smugly while espousing the virtues of the great order of the Heavens? Just a very bland, boring movie--although I admit, the incest thing was kind of funny. The ending was horrible and even though I've been through it twice, I still have no idea what the point of the movie was...That is to say, the bad guy wins and although I can appreciate that philosophically, it's not something I look for in my movies, which are mostly about escapism. So, if you're looking for a pretty movie about China waaaay back when that will depress the shit out of you, then maybe this is right up your alley. 2/10
Bull Durham - Watched this with a group of friends. One of the best baseball movies....ever. Even with Kevin Costner as lead. 10/10
