Some stuff I've watched lately...
Factory Girl 2/10
Stupid and insipid. Only good for furthering my own controversial theory that the Andy Warhol scene was a shallow, crock of shit habitat for attention-starved guttersnipes. And I don't think much of his art, either. He was a fucking adman for chrissakes.
The Queen 7/10
Good, but ultimately forgettable. Eh...
Prairie Home Companion 8.5/10
I loved watching this film. I'm a huge PHC fan and I love Altman's style. Just a pure pleasure to watch.
and the big one....
All About Eve 10/10
I watched this film for about the 10th time last night. It's one of my all-time favorites. A brilliant character study starring Bette Davis (I can only aspire to be as cool as Bette Davis in this film - she is
so fucking awesome!!), Anne Baxter, George Sanders (who makes my panties wet in the big, revelatory scene of this film

), Celeste Holm, Gary Merrill and Hugh Marlowe. Don't want to reveal too much of the plot because it involves deception and the gradual unveiling of truth, but it is set among a group of friends in the NY theater scene (a writer and his wife and a director and his older,
grand dame actress girlfriend) and the effect upon them and their relationships by a young ingenue who "stumbles" into their circle. The film is damn near flawless. Beautifully filmed in black and white. Written and directed with skill and acumen by Joseph L. Mankiewicz. Some of the best onscreen banter ever. Sexual references that were probably a bit controversial for their day. And the young Marilyn Monroe has a bit part that is quite enjoyable. And a plus for me is how many times people say "the theat
uh."

I love that. I think this film was ahead of its time and that just about anyone would enjoy it...even if you don't like "old movies."
