As I have never seen, heard, nor spoke of The Sopranos, I guess it may be a bit presumptious of me to say that although I did not watch the final episode, the ending could have been made to be that way in order to have the fans even more hyped up about the possibility of a
Sopranos' movie.
It would seem logical to leave things up in the air at the end if there was a possibility to gain revenue by having everything resolved in the potentially-upcoming movie.
But that is just my take.
