So, I have picked up a new hobby: Nerf guns!
It's the cheapest hobby I've ever had...way cheaper than Airsoft. I can get one of the better pistols for $6 at walmart (rather than $150), and the best guns you can buy are $20-$30! There is a HUGE community (many communities, in fact) online, and tons of aftermarket support for modding them to be something Nerf probably never intended
Here's my arsenal so far:
Back Left, going forward:
Longshot (just picked up tonight)
Two Mavericks
Two NiteFinders (one modded with a spring replacement)
Two Secret Shot Pocket Blasters (one without its housing)
Middle:
AirTech2000
Big Ass Pile of Assorted Darts
Unopened on the right:
Secret Shot Pocket Blaster
Airtech2000
Nite Finder
30 darts (10 whistlers and 20 for the LongShot)
Supplies:
Small hacksaw
Superglue
Gorilla Glue
Dremel
#49 Ace Hardware spring to put in a NiteFinder
Not shown:
A Maverick in the process of being modded
Hi Temp Glue gun
8' of 1/2" CPVC to make custom barrels
4" steel barrel giong to be modded onto a nitefinder
8" steel barrel to be modded into an AirTech 2000
I've bought all of this stuff in the past week or two, and I think I've spent less than $120, almost half of it being tools. I'm going to try to organize some nerf wars locally, which shouldn't be too hard, as I live on a college campus!
Even without any organization, my wife and I love chasing eachother around the house...makes for a great drinking game.
If anyone is interested, I'll post a tutorial on how to take the $6 gun you can buy at walmart, add a $1 spring from ace hardware and a $.30 cent bolt and some superglue and have a nerf gun capable of shooting 60 feet or more, and leaving decent welts from close range.
Seriously, everyone, if you have a cool girlfriend, or roommates, and are bored, drive to walmart RIGHT NOW and pick up a pair of Mavericks--they're NERF REVOLVERS for goodness sake, and at only $7 each, and it is the highest fun per dollar value I've ever had
