I brought it to a teacher of mine, who is much more mechanically apt then myself, and he took it a little farther than I could. He thought the best option was to solder the wire directly to the board, and after a bit of fun, that works.
Only problem I have now is, the left click button is flaky, and the kicker is -
it won't boot to the CD drive until after I have booted to the hard drive, a fact I did not know until after I deleted the partition.
Well, I think it's safe to say that someone above really, really hates this laptop.
