Another fun fact: FireFox taking up that much memory is a problem that occured as FF got more expansive and more popular. I've seen it start to take up memory like that as well. It sucks memory into it and won't let go for some reason, especially if you haven't restarted in a while.
I'd say that's a problem with the application, not necessarily the OS itself. But they, if you want to try something new, go for it!!!
