Pan's Labyrinth - Last night I watched Pan's Labyrinth with my wife. I was really looking forward to it. I'm fond of the new cadre of young hispanic directors (Guillermo del Toro, Alfonso Cuarón, Alejandro González Iñárritu, etc.)
Visually, it was impressive, but overall I was I was disappointed. My primary complaint is that most of the characters (other than Mercedes, played by Maribel Verdú) were underdeveloped. The characters didn't grow or change and their background stories were incoherent.
I hate ratings. I would give it a 7.5/10. I'm a tough grader. For recent movies by that group, see amores perros, y tu mama tambien, children of men, babel, 21 grams, all before you see this movie.
